OBITUARY
MR. W. W. CAMPBELL.
FORMER TASMANIAN SCHOLAR.

The death occurred at Brisbane. Queensland, on September 29, of Mr. Winton Woodfield Campbell, a former resident or Hobart, at the age of 46 years. He was the second surviving son of the late Mr. W. A. Campbell, whose death occurred at Queenstown recently. He had a brilliant scholastic career in Tasmania.

At the age of nine years he passed a sixth class examination, which entitled him to tuition at a college for three years.' He entered St. Mary's College, Hobart, and at the age of 12 gained a scholarship in the junior public examination, which entitled him to tuition for three more years. Two years later he passed the senior public examination, winning the Sir Richard Dry prize for foreign languages. He took up surveying as a profession, and at the age of 21 passed his final examination to qualify as an authorised surveyor. He was at that time the youngest man in Australia to have passed this examination.

He leaves a wife and family. Mesdames H. G. Paull and J. Corby, of Queenstown, are sisters .
